Between the State Capitol and the University of Wisconsin, Madison has a history of innovation, research and discovery. Such notable discoveries as Vitamin A, B and D were made at the UW. Politically, Wisconsin has been on the forefront of social and political movements since it started helping slaves escape the south shortly after achieving statehood in 1848.
